THOMASVILLE, N.C. — Monday is typically the day private golf clubs close their courses. Colonial Country Club recently did the opposite, opening its course to non-members every Monday through its new Member for a Day program.

The member-owned club, private since it opened in 1958, will offer non-members access to the golf course every Monday. No member host is required. It marks the first time in the club’s history that the course has been available to non-members on a standing weekly schedule.

“Colonial is a hidden gem in Thomasville, and we want people to experience what we have here,” said Ross Sanderlin, PGA, General Manager and Director of Golf. “Member for a Day Mondays make that easy. Book a tee time through GolfNow or call the pro shop, then come enjoy the course. We think once people play it, they’ll understand why our members love it.”

Colonial’s 18-hole, par-71 layout was designed by Gene Hamm, the architect behind dozens of North Carolina golf courses. The course plays just over 6,600 yards through the rolling hills and hardwoods east of Thomasville. A recent renovation added Champion ultradwarf Bermuda greens to the course that can comfortably be walked by golfers who prefer to play without a cart.

“The board wanted to open the door without changing what makes Colonial a private club,” said Dicky Campbell, President of the Colonial Country Club Board of Directors. “Mondays do that. Our members keep the course Tuesday through Sunday, and one day a week the community gets to come see what we’ve been enjoying out here. We think a lot of people will like what they find.”

The Monday schedule follows the club’s weekly course maintenance, which is why the first tee time begins at noon rather than early morning. The professional staff will manage tee-time spacing and pace of play throughout the day while maintaining the experience expected by both members and visiting golfers.

While Mondays will introduce new golfers to the course, Colonial’s clubhouse and event spaces are available year-round for weddings, corporate golf outings, holiday parties, rehearsal dinners, anniversary celebrations and business meetings. The clubhouse offers event space overlooking the course, and both members and non-members can inquire about private events through the club’s events team at eventsmanager@ccc-nc.com.
