The Guilford Nonprofit Consortium, a collaborative of 340+ nonprofit organizations across Guilford County, announces that nominations are open for nonprofit and volunteer excellence. “Nonprofit organizations – powered by talented staff and volunteers – continue to show up every day with courage, resilience, and trustworthiness to make Guilford County a great place to live, work, learn, and play,” said Mary Herbenick, Executive Director of the Guilford Nonprofit Consortium. “Now is the community’s opportunity to recognize outstanding Guilford County organizations and people working in the nonprofit sector.” Nominations are due January 16, 2026, for awards celebrating nonprofit and volunteer excellence. Nominations cover several categories, including Nonprofit of the Year, Nonprofit Leader of the Year, Nonprofit Front-Line Leader, and numerous categories for the NC Governor’s Volunteer Service Awards. Overview of the Awards: The NC Governor’s Volunteer Service Awards honor the true spirit of volunteerism by recognizing individuals and groups that make a significant contribution to their community through volunteer service. There are several categories that will be recognized, including: service to military families/veterans; mentoring/educating youth; devotion to assisting older adults; dedication to assisting marginalized populations; disaster preparedness/recovery; dedication to volunteering with/for animals; restoring/preserving history and the arts; environmental stewardship; health and human services; and lifetime achievement as a volunteer. Learn more about GVSA and nominate exceptional volunteers using this link. 2025 Nonprofit of the Year Award -- awarded to a Guilford Nonprofit Consortium member organization that demonstrates excellence in service to the community, care for staff, and growth in equity. 2025 Nonprofit Leader of the Year Award – awarded to leader at a member organization who has demonstrated distinctive leadership qualities in both their own organization and in the community in 2025. 2025 Front Line Leader of the Year Award – awarded to a staff member whose role is embedded in the client/community served by the nonprofit organization, and who has had an undeniable impact on the clients they served in 2025.
